Ian Stephenson is a guitarist and multi-instrumentalist who rose to prominence on the folk scene after winning the BBC Young Folk Award back in 1999 with ‘422’. Since then he has played on nearly 100 albums as well as working on many others as producer or composer/arranger.  Ian has a lot of experience composing in different genres for various forces including chamber ensemble, choir, folk band and solo guitar. His latest choral piece "On Another's Sorrow" was included as part of the BBC Choir of the Year competition 2014. Since graduating with a Folk and Traditional music degree in 2005, Ian now teaches contemporary compositional techniques, instrumental lessons and music skills at Newcastle University. Ian has a particular interest in writing traditional style dance tunes, and plays regularly for ceilidhs and dances throughout the North East and beyond.
