Kieran Szifris is based in Wallsend, Tyne & Wear. His original compositions have been played to live audiences all over the world as well as numerous radio broadcasts. Kieran’s compositions range from simple folk tunes like waltzes, jigs and reels to more varied and strange pieces using non-traditional harmony and structures. As well as being influenced by the traditional folk dance music of Britain, Kieran takes inspiration from the new generation of contemporary American acoustic composers. He has been writing for, and performing with The Monster Ceilidh Band for the past 8 years and is a graduate of Newcastle University’s Folk and Traditional Music Degree. Kieran has often been asked to write tunes to mark special occasions like weddings, births and anniversaries and is pleased to team up with Magnetic North East to offer this service.

“It was a really amazing surprise and I was very moved when I heard it the first time.  It is a lovely piece -  it is quirky, nostalgic and warm with a hint of east European,  all at the same time.  Johnny and I are looking forward to figuring out how to play it and in due course we will enlist our squeezebox player mate. I’m sure it will become a staple.”
